Round Mountain is an unincorporated community in Cherokee County, Alabama, United States.
History
A post office called Round Mountain was established in 1873, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1960.[2] The community was centered around the Round Mountain blast furnace.[3] The furnace first opened in 1852 and averaged 11 tons of iron manufactured per week.[4] It was the first furnace in Alabama to use red iron ore to produce iron.[5] The furnace was partially destroyed by Major General Francis Blair in 1864. It continued operation until closing in 1906.[6]
