2014 shooting
On January 14, 2014, at about 8:10 am, a student opened fire inside the gymnasium of Berrendo Middle School. The suspect was then subdued by a staff member until he was taken into police custody. An 12-year-old[1] student and a 13-year-old student were both airlifted to a hospital in Lubbock, Texas in critical condition. The suspected shooter is a seventh grade 12-year-old student at the school named Mason Campbell, and used a shotgun that was smuggled into the school inside a duffel bag.[2] Campbell is facing charges of three counts of aggravated battery with a firearm, and can be confined in a juvenile detention facility until he turns 21 years old.[3][4]
