Ros Atkins (born Cornwall, England) is a BBC host and presenter of the BBC World Service World Have Your Say programme.[2]

Early life

Atkins has lived in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago and Nassau, Bahamas, while growing up.[3] He also spent time in Johannesburg, South Africa, after finishing his studies.[4]

Education

Atkins was educated at Truro School,[5] a co-educational boarding independent school in Truro in Cornwall.

Life and career

Atkins began his career as a music DJ in Brixton, London[3] and worked for British Airways in-flight radio before joining the BBC.[3] He worked in Johannesburg as a researcher for the Centre for Policy Studies. He also wrote for the Independent on Sunday (SA) and edited the website of London's Time Out magazine.[6] He started at the BBC as a Five Live producer in 2001.[7][8][4] His first job was on the Simon Mayo programme on BBC Radio 5 Live.[4]

Atkins has presented World Have Your Say on the BBC World Service since it began.[4] He has also presented The World Today and The Ticket on the World Service and Up All Night on Radio 5 Live.[4]

In May 2012, Atkins presented an edition of BBC World News from Land's End, Cornwall, to mark the arrival of the Olympic torch in the UK prior to the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.[9] He also reported on the Olympics torch relay for BBC News.[10][11]

Since February 2014, Atkins has also presented the BBC World Service program Outside Source, which airs at 18:00 hours GMT (Monday to Thursday) on the BBC World channel and 21:00 hours BST on BBC News Channel from June 2015, and is a sister program to the radio program of the same name that airs in the morning. The show is noted for its innovative use of a touchscreen to illustrate breaking news stories.
