Early life

Roopak Saluja was born on 25 July 1975 Kolkata, West Bengal, India, to a Sikh Punjabi father and a Nepalese mother. He did his schooling at the Doon School in Dehradun, India.

Career

He started his advertising career at 23, in account management, at Young & Rubicam Budapest. After that he moved to Ogilvy & Mather Paris to work for Motorola Europe, Middle East and Africa. He quit Ogilvy in 2003 to go to business school at INSEAD.[2]

Bang Bang Films

In mid-2006, after graduating with an MBA from INSEAD, he set up a company called Bang Bang Films. Bang Bang Films has a strong network globally, especially in Asia Pacific and the Middle East. It was ranked #2 on AllWorld Network's Top 25 fastest growing companies, across all sectors, in India in 2010.[3]

In July 2013, Bang Bang Films and international director Jim Sonzero, joined forces to create a unique joint venture- SONZERO FILMS INDIA/BANG BANG.[4] It is primarily focused on beauty, lifestyle and storytelling.

It has completed its inaugural project, L’Oreal Fall Repair campaign with Bollywood actor Sonam Kapoor, and shot another spot for L’Oreal starring Aishwarya Rai.

Bang Bang Films was ranked among the Top 10 Production Houses in India by leading advertising agency professionals in The Economic Times supplement, Brand Equity's Agency Reckoner 2014 list. [5] [6]

Jack in the Box

Jack in the Box Worldwide was set up in 2009 as the content-for-brands arm of Bang Bang Films. It combines content strategy, film, video production and digital media to create customized content for brands across multiple platforms and geographies. It has offices in Mumbai and Delhi. [7]

Achievements

Roopak is a member of the Indian Angel Network, a group of eminent entrepreneurs who invest in start-up businesses across a variety of sectors and markets. In 2011, CNNGo had him listed as 20 people to watch out for in Mumbai.[8]

He has also served on the juries of the London International Awards, Dubai Lynx, A List Awards, Ciclope Festival, Spikes Asia Awards in 2011, and on the Adfest Award[9] in March 2012.

In 2014, Roopak was featured on Campaign Asia-Pacific's 40 Under 40 list among the region's hottest strategic thinkers, suits, creators and planners. [10][11]

Personal life

Having grown up, studied, worked and lived in ten different countries on six continents, he speaks eight languages . He is a professional trance DJ, and has performed around the globe from across Europe to South Africa to Goa to Thailand and co-founding and running his own trance label, Procyon Records (Budapest and Paris). He has also acted in a couple of films, one of them being Marigold with Salman Khan.

He married actress Tara Sharma[1] in November 2007, after two years of courtship. They have two children together, sons Zen (born 2009) and Kai (born 2011).
