Rong Hao (simplified Chinese: 荣昊; traditional Chinese: 榮昊; Pinyin: Róng Hào; born 7 April 1987 in Wuhan, Hubei) is a Chinese footballer who currently plays for Guangzhou Evergrande in the Chinese Super League.
Club career
Rong Hao started his football career with Wuhan Guanggu in 2005 and he made his debut for the club in a 1-0 win against Shenyang Ginde on 27 May 2006 where Rong also scored his first goal.[1] After that match, he would play in five more league games at the end of the season and by the following campaign he would gradually establish himself as a regular of the first team despite predominately coming on as a substitute. By the 2008 season, he had now established himself as a regular in the team's starting lineup. However, Wuhan were suddenly ejected and subsequently relegated during the league campaign after the club's management did not accept the punishment given to them by the Chinese Football Association after a scuffle broke out during a league game against Beijing Guoan on 27 September 2008. Rong Hao found himself unable to play any football.[2]
Still a promising young player, newly promoted club Jiangsu Sainty were willing to take Rong on loan for the whole of the 2009 season. With the club, Rong would immediately establish himself as the team's first-choice left back and help guide Jiangsu to a mid-table tenth place finish.[3] Once his loan ended, Rong was quickly transferred to Hangzhou Greentown and helped guide the club to a fourth place finish and the chance to play in the AFC Champions League for the first time in the clubs history.[4] Rong transferred to Guangzhou Evergrande on 26 December 2011, along with Zhao Xuri, Li Jianbin and Peng Xinli.[5] Rong was injured for most of the 2012 season and was in no condition to take part in any matches.
International career
Rong would make his international debut against Iran which China won 1-0 on 1 June 2009 and his appearance would also make him the first Jiangsu Sainty player to ever play for the national team.[6] After several further friendlies, he would quickly establish himself as the team's first choice left back and won the 2010 East Asian Football Championship with them before being called up to the 2011 AFC Asian Cup squad.
