Rondell Bernard White (born February 23, 1972) is a former outfielder and designated hitter in Major League Baseball. His career batting average was .284 and his career slugging percentage was .462.
Pre-Major League Baseball career
White is a 1990 graduate of Jones County High School in Gray, Georgia, where he played baseball and basketball. He was the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Player of the Year in 1990 and was also selected to the USA Today and Collegiate Baseball All-America squads that year.
Professional career
Drafted by the Montreal Expos with the 24th overall pick in the 1990 draft, White played there from 1993-2000. He was traded to the Chicago Cubs for Scott Downs on July 31, 2000.[1] He played for the team until 2001. On December 17, 2001 he signed a two-year deal with the New York Yankees.[2] On March 19, 2003 he was traded from the Yankees to the San Diego Padres for Bubba Trammell and Mark Phillips.[3] That year he made his first career All-Star team. On August 26, 2003 he was traded to the Kansas City Royals for Chris Tierney and Brian Sanches.[4] After the season he became a free agent and signed with the Detroit Tigers.[5] After two seasons with the Tigers, he signed with the Minnesota Twins on December 22, 2005.[6] He finished his career in 2007 with a career .284/.336/.462 batting line with 198 home runs and 768 runs batted in.
On December 13, 2007, White was mentioned in the Mitchell Report in connection to steroids.[7]
