The Roman Catholic Diocese of Tepic (Latin: Dioecesis Tepicensis) (erected 23 June 1891) is in Mexico and is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Guadalajara.
On Friday, March 30, 2012, Pope Benedict XVI named Bishop Luis Artemio Flores Calzada, until then the Bishop of the recently erected (2003) Roman Catholic Diocese of Valle de Chalco, as Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tepic, to replace the late Bishop Ricardo Watty Urquidi, who had died of cancer. Bishop Flores Calzada was born in San Antonio, Mexico, on April 28, 1949. He completed his undergraduate Philosophy and graduate Theology studies at the Seminary of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Durango in Durango, Mexico, and then at the Pontifical Gregorian University, in Rome, Italy, where he obtained a Licentiate in Sacred Theology (S.T.L.) in the area of Dogmatic Theology. He then took coursework in Sacred Scripture, studying in Jerusalem, Israel, and then, returning to his homeland in Mexico, he studied Canon Law at the Pontifical University of Mexico, earning a Diploma. On October 17, 1974 was ordained to the Presbyterate for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Texcoco. After Ordination, he served in various positions: Parochial Vicar, Pastor, Prefect, and Professor in the Major Seminary and Minor Seminary, Judge and Promoter of Justice in the Diocesan Tribunal, and ultimately as Episcopal Vicar of the Vicariate of Texcoco in the Texcoco Diocese. On July 8, 2003 was appointed to serve as the first Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Valle de Chalco, and received episcopal consecration as a Bishop on the following September 8. In the Conference of Mexican Bishops, he is in charge of the Episcopal Commission for the Pastoral Care for Communication.[1]
