The Roman Catholic Diocese of Malacca-Johor (Latin: Dioecesis Melakanus-Giohoranus) is a diocese of the Latin Rite of the Roman Catholic Church in the Ecclesiastical province of Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. It is located in the southern region of Malaysia, administering 2 states, namely Malacca and Johor.
History
- 4 February 1558: Established as the Diocese of Malacca [1][2] was suffragan (other being Diocese of Cochin) to the Archdiocese of Goa[3]
- 1838: Suppressed
- 10 September 1841: Restored as the Apostolic Vicariate of Western Siam from the Apostolic Vicariate of Siam[4]
- 19 August 1888: Promoted as the Diocese of Malacca [1][2]
- 19 September 1953: Promoted as Archdiocese of Malacca
- 25 February 1955: Promoted as Metropolitan Archdiocese of Malacca-Singapore
- On 18 December 1972, the diocese was demoted as the Diocese of Malacca-Johor, when the Archdiocese of Malacca-Singapore was split into the Archdiocese of Singapore and this diocese.
- On 27 May 1985, the name was changed to the diocese of Malaka-Johor. The diocese is suffragan to the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur
