Rolling Hills Preparatory School (RHP) is a private coeducational school in San Pedro, California.

Founded in 1981, the school has approximately 236 students enrolled in grades 6 through 12. Approximately 26% of students receive some degree of financial aid. The Head of School is Peter McCormack. From 1981 to 1991, RHP classes were held at Rolling Hills Covenant Church. In 1992 RHP moved to larger facilities on the Malaga Cove School campus.

Rolling Hills Prep's campus also houses its sister school Renaissance School.

History

The school opened in 1981 as the high school division of the Rolling Hills Country Day School. The school's first class of seven students graduated in 1985.[1] In 1992 the school added middle school levels and moved to the Malaga Cove School campus in Palos Verdes Estates.[1][2] In 1996 the school's board of trustees decided that Rolling Hills Prep should have a permanent campus, and the board searched potential sites across the South Bay region. In early 1998 the school submitted a "notice of interest" for a portion of the former Palos Verdes Naval Housing Site, which became available after the closure of the Long Beach Naval Shipyard. 54 other organizations also submitted notices of interest. On February 6, 2007 the school moved to its permanent site.[1]
