Rodrigo Antonio Montt Swett (born July 5, 1974) is a Chilean lawyer, jurist and politician, currently a councilor for Lo Barnechea.

Early life

Montt was born in Santiago, Chile on July 5, 1974, the fourth of six children of Manuel Montt Dubournais and María Gloria Swett De la Cerda.

Education

He was enrolled in the Colegio del Verbo Divino ("Divine Word High School") Verbo Divino, from which he graduated in 1991.

He studied law and matriculated from the University of the Andes in 2001, obtaining his law degree from the Chilean Supreme Court.

He continued his postgraduate education obtaining a master's degree in commercial law at Adolfo Ibáñez University and one in criminal law jointly at Pompeu Fabra University and the University of Barcelona in Spain.

Early political career

He belongs to the politically influential Montt family and is a descendant of deputies. His grandfather was Manuel Montt Lehuedé and his great-grandfather, Luis Montt Montt, brother of the Ex-President Pedro Montt Montt (1906–1910), and great-great-grandson of the Ex President Manuel Montt Torres (1851–1861).

He worked at Estudio Jurídico Simonetti & Cía. between 1998 and 2003 and in 2004 went to work for Manuel Montt & Cía. After that he decided to dedicate himself to public service.

He stood for the position of deputy in the Chilean parliamentary election of 2005 for District 34 (San Fernando, Chimbarongo, Las Cabras, Peumo, Pichidegua, San Vicente de Tagua Tagua), as an Independent candidate in the pact between the Alliance for Chile and the National Renewal.[1]

Present day

He continues his political activities and is president of the party for District 34. He took part in a television program "Politic Savoury" on the "New TV 4 channel of San Fernando", a program providing analysis of the political situation.

He was a candidate for deputy in the election of 2009, representing the National Renewal party in district 34. He was the Seremi of Justice in the O'Higgins Region of Chile in the new government formed in March 2010.[2]

Since November, is the Legal Director of the General Directorate of Credit Pledgee, Chilean public institution better known as "Aunt Rica", and in December also serves as its Managing director (CEO).[3]

On 28 October this year, was elected Councillor (Concejal in Spanish) for Lo Barnechea a commune of Chile located in Santiago Province, Santiago Metropolitan Region, in the Chilean municipal election, 2012. Exercising it from the December 6, 2012 to December 6, 2016.[4]
