Rocky Hill School

This article is about the private school in Rhode Island. For the public high school in Connecticut, see Rocky Hill High School.

Rocky Hill School is a college preparatory school located in the Potowomut neighborhood of Warwick, Rhode Island, United States. It educates in grades preschool through 12.[1]

History

The school was founded in 1934 by Dorothy Marshall as a pre-primary school.[2] Nathan Hale, a descendant of the Revolutionary war hero of the same name, purchased the school in 1939.[3] The school's main campus is the former Hopelands country estate, which was acquired by the school in 1948,[4][5] and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.[6]

Until at least the 1960s, the school's full name was Rocky Hill Country Day School.[7]

Peter Branch became the ninth head of school in 2013.[8]

Educational Model

This is a coeducational school that comprises three divisions, a Lower School (preschool - grade5), Middle School (6-8), and Upper School (9-12). Classes are small, with a student-teacher ratio of 5:1.[9] The total enrollment is just under 300. Because of its small size, Rocky Hill is able to give students a high level of individual attention.[1]
