The castle of Corvo de' Corvis

The most important site in Roccascalegna is the Medieval castle. The castle is built on a rocky outcrop overlooking the valley. Originally it was a Norman tower, built in the year 1000. Thereafter the Angevins built the rest of the structure, with three side towers. Restored in the nineties of XXth century, it is now a museum.

According to local legend, the castle was inhabited by the cruel Baron Corvo de' Corvis, which imposed the law of jus de seigneur to the population. A young guy, to save his girlfriend, isguised himself as a woman and did get to the castle, killing the baron. The baron, dying, put his bloody hand against the wall, tracing an indelible imprint.
