Roberto Cacciapaglia (born 1953 in Milan) is an Italian pianist and composer.

Early life

Cacciapaglia received his degree in music composition from the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Milan, under the direction of Bruno Bettinelli. While at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi he also studied orchestra direction and electronic music. Roberto has also worked for the Department of Phonology at RAI (Italy's national television station) in Milan and has collaborated with the CNR (National Research Council) of Pisa, where he studied computer applications in the field of music.[1]

Music Career

As the protagonist of the most innovative Italian music scene, Roberto Cacciapaglia is referential, in Italy and abroad, for his musical research ranging between classicism and electronic experimentation.

For many years he has been researching the powers of sound, in the direction of a music without borders, beyond any division. His music draws inspiration from these experiences and expresses itself through emotions rather than through rules and structures.

His new work, “ALPHABET”, recorded in the Verdi Hall of the Conservatory in Milan and released on the 28th of January 2014 by Decca Records – Universal Music.rose immediately to number one of the iTunes classical music chart .[2]

Roberto Cacciapaglia has huge successes with his live performances in Italy and abroad. A testimony is his tour in Russia in 2013, with concerts in Moscow and San Petersburg which received an extraordinary reception by the Russian public. Other concerts followed in Barcelona, Bratislava and Istanbul, where he taught several seminars and workshops at the Turkish Music State Conservatory.

The longstanding artistic partnership undertaken with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, gave life to three CDs: “QUARTO TEMPO” (Universal Music-2007); “CANONE DEGLI SPAZI” (Universal Music-2009) and “TEN DIRECTIONS” (2010).

Roberto Cacciapaglia is frequently guest of “La Milanesiana” by Elisabetta Sgarbi. In 2003 he presented his concert together with the Nobel Prize for literature Derek Walcott and in 2004 he performed “Mente Radiosa”, composed for the evening dedicated to Rita Levi Montalcini, Nobel Prize for medicine.

Many of his works are used in advertising campaigns for internationally renowned brands.

During his career Roberto Cacciapaglia worked with stars of the music scene such as, among others, Tangerine Dream at the time of his first album “SONANZE” (1974), published by the prestigious label OHR in Cologne and the first quadraphonic album to be distributed in Italy.

Following that he experienced the languages of musical communication (rock and pop) as a producer for artists such as: Ann Steel (1979), Gianna Nannini (1981), Giuni Russo (1983), Ivan Cattaneo (1983), Alice (1985), just to name a few.

In 1986 Ricordi Records published his opera in two acts “GENERAZIONI DEL CIELO”, which premiered at Teatro Metastasio in Prato. In 1988 he performed “In C” by Terry Riley, a manifesto of minimalism in music, whose recording will soon be published in Russia. From those same years are “TRANSARMONICA” (1988), “AUREA CARMINA” (1988), commissioned by the Accademia di Santa Cecilia of Rome, and the musical fairy tale “Le Mille e una Notte “ ( “The Arabian Nights”, 1991), performed at the Festival of Berlin, the “Berliner Festspiele”.

Roberto Cacciapaglia performs his own compositions in the most prestigious theatres and most famous institutions both in Italy and abroad, among others: Teatro Comunale in Bologna, Conservatory in Milan, Accademia di Santa Cecilia of Rome, Berliner Festspiele in Berlin, Festival in Tel Aviv, Festival of Campinas in Brazil, Passatge de la Pau in Barcelona, Spoleto Festival, Lingotto in Turin, Milan Cathedral, Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome, Teatro degli Arcimboldi in Milan, World Event Abu Dhabi, Teatro Carignano in Turin, Maiden Tower in Baku in Azerbaijan, Teatro Bibiena in Mantua, Ravello Festival, Teatro Morlacchi in Perugia, International House of Music in Moscow, Belozerskih Palace in St. Petersburg, Conservatory in Istanbul, Palazzo Reale in Milan, Auditorium of the Slovak National Radio in Bratislava and many others.

Roberto Cacciapaglia is also founder of the Educational Music Academy with the aim of giving a voice to young musical talents, composers and performers, pianists and musicians in order to give shape to their projects and to achieve professional mastery in their works.
