Athletic events
Plymouth and Sandburg middle schools have pools that are used for high school swimming events and Plymouth has swimming lessons. Although the Armstrong Swim teams practices at Plymouth and Cooper swim teams practice at Sandburg, both teams hold their home meets at Plymouth Middle School. The elementary schools have one of the largest chess programs in the state. Every elementary school chess club has at least 15 kids, and one, that of Sunny Hollow, has recently reached over 75 kids before they had to start turning down club hopefuls. This program is largely due to the leadership of Daa Mahowald, the co-coach of the majority of elementary chess clubs when the district realized the need for a chess coordinator. She has taken a less active role in specific chess clubs as the coordinator.
