The Rivers State Police is the state command of the Nigerian Police Force in Rivers State. It is responsible for maintaining public order and safety, enforcing the law, and preventing crime. The Rivers State police has 3 area commands with 52 divisional police headquarters, 25 police stations and 23 police outposts. It is headed by a Commissioner of Police and has a staff strength of about 17,207.

Mission

The Rivers State Police states the following as its mission:

To partner with other relevant security agencies and the public in gathering, collating and sharing information and intelligence with the intention of ensuring the safety and security of the state.

To participate in efforts aimed at combating crime while ensuring that criminal act are properly investigated so as to bring the criminals to justice in a fair and professional manner.

To engender an efficient, effective, and highly motivated workforce, with deliberate efforts aimed at improving the capacity and welfare of all officers and men of the command.

To build a people’s friendly police in Rivers State that will respect and uphold the fundamental rights of all citizens.

To build a gender sensitive and gender friendly Police that will give equal opportunity to all police officers, while at the same time respecting their peculiarities.

Rivers State Police operates under the Nigerian Police Act & Regulations CAP. P19. LFN 2004.[2]
