Risod is a city and a municipal council in Washim district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is on the Border of Vidarbha & Marathwada.

M.P. Bhavana P. Gavli also from Risod. Mr. Amit Subhashrao Zanak is MLA from Risod constituency.

Risod was previously known by as Rushiwatnagar. At that time Risod was a small village and was quite a vibrant place. The temple of Shri Amardas baba is Magnificent.

Education

There are many schools among them Shree Shivaji High school is famous for Marathi and Urdu medium, it at the centre of risod. One CBSE board affiliated school named Bhavana Public School is near by RISOD, it is an English medium school. There is also a school named as Bharat Madhyamik Shala started by Philanthropists of the village during early forties. The school produced quite a few luminaries that include Hon. Anant rao Deshmukh, ex.MP, Dr Mukund Deshmukh, a well known psychiatrist, Dr A S Deshpande a professor at NIBM Pune who designed the Banking Recruitment test, Dr R S Deshpande, Director at a world known Insititute of Social & Economic Change ISEC in Bangalore, Dr Brahmanada Deshpande, famous historian and many others. All of them have studied at the school in the village and made their carrier.Also there is science college Late. Shimati Pushpatai Patil Mahavidyalay run By Jeevan Vikas sanstha.Also An English school named Sunrise English School is established in 2003. Also here is one topmost and old English medium school of risod that is Rajasthan convent(RC) located on hingoli road Risod.

Culture

Risod is also known for its Jatra and Amardas baba Mandir. There used to be a small nala named Sandawa but it is totally depleted. There is famous Pinglakshi Devi Temple, during Navratri there is a lot of fun & different programm. On the auspicious day of Dasshera everyone goto Pinglakshi Devi temple. There is a lake near to this temple.There is famous Loni(sakharam Maharaj) village which is famous for its Loni Jatra in Risod Tahsil. There is the famous temple of Appaswami maharaj. Also the temple of Sant Gajanan Maharaj Mandhir is there. 5 km away From Risod there is the temple of Navnath Maharaj at Gorakhwadi. On Washim road there is the temple of Sant Kabir knows as Kabir Kuti. On Mehakar Road at Mothegaon there is the temple of Ganapati. On Hingoli road, 3 km away from Risod there is a lake & beauty of nature. Near small lake devi Padmavati temple is there.

Political

Washim district politics is mostly dominated by politicians from Risod area.People from Risod Tahsil are mostly Maratha & Mali caste. Late Mr. Subhashrao Zanak was Ex-Cabinet ministers of Maharashtra. Now his son Mr. Amit Zanak is MLA

Risod town is having municipal council. Mr. Gowardhandas Karwa was the first president on Risod municipal corporation & The first lady president was Mrs. Mayadevi Rameshchandra Saboo. She has been elected by General voting from town.

Economy and industry

Its soil is fertile. Previously it was cotton producing area but since last 10 years formers are producing Soyabean. Nowadays it is one of the most soyabean producing area in Maharashtra. Soyabean has dramatically changed life of people from Risod area.There is Shri Balaji Sahkari SutGirani near Risod established by well-educated & visionary Mr. Babaraoji Khadse-Patil. Also there is project Shri Balaji Particle Borad started by the late Pundalikraoji Gawali.

Risod is one of the most politically important tahsil in Washim District. Also it is famous for Bhaji Market, educational programme and facility.
