Rishi Khosla
Rishi Khosla, a global a global entrepreneur and serial start-up investor Rishi's latest venture is OakNorth[1], the newest entrant into Britain's banking sector.[2] OakNorth, which received a UK banking license in March 2015, is being set up as a digitally focused bank focusing on the small and medium-sized enterprises[3].
His last venture Copal Amba,[4][5][6][7] (co-founded in 2002) an outsource research business for investment banks, was fully acquired by Moody’s Corporation in 2014.[8][9][10]
Copal had over 2,500 employees at the point where it was sold. In mid-2008, Copal Partners was ranked the Number One Investment Research and Analytics KPO in Brown and Wilson Group's annual 'Black Book of Outsourcing 2008'.[11]
Moody’s Corporation,[12] which is a US-listed company, had picked up a majority stake in Copal Partners in November 2011.[13][14] Copal Partners’ minority shareholders include Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Deutsche Bank, and Citigroup.[9][15][16]
In December 2013, Copal Partners acquired Amba Research,a provider of investment research and quantitative analytics for global financial institutions. Amba was merged with Copal Partners and the new entity will be called as Copal Amba.[17]
Khosla was also one of the recipients of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2011.[18]
Khosla is also an active venture investor and has provided early stage funding to two multi-billion dollar companies – Indiabulls[19][20][21] and PayPal.[22][23] He advises steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal[24] on his private equity and venture investments and is an advisor to the venture capital fund Epiphany Ventures.[5][25]
Rishi Khosla started his career in banking, and participated in a number of advisory transactions, including an asset swap between GRE and ING and a divestment program for the Polish government.[26] Khosla was also a part of the business development team at GE Capital,[23][27] reporting to the president of GE Capital Europe. During his tenure he attained approval from Jack Welch[28] to establish an early stage venture fund for GE Capital, which he co-managed.[23][29]
He is one of the Trustees of New Philanthropy Capital (NPC),[30][31] an organization providing independent research and tailored advice on the most effective ways to support charities.[32][33] In 2008, Copal Partners had tied up with NPC to monitor the effectiveness of charities in developing countries.[34] It conducts due diligence and audits NGO credentials that include background checks, bandwidth to handle projects and credibility with money, legal presence & compliance and communities the NGO's supposedly intend to serve.[35] Later that year, Copal published a report titled "Better Giving Through Research" which was the first comprehensive study of India's charity sector that was ever undertaken.[36][37]
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University College London, and a Masters in Accounting & Finance from London School of Economics.[38]
