Rick Lax

Rick Lax is a Las Vegas-based Polymath[1] and deception expert.[2][3]

The Huffington Post called him "a multi-talented guy"[4] who's written three critically acclaimed books, including, Lawyer Boy: A Case Study on Growing Up,[5] Fool Me Once: Hustlers, Hookers, Headliners and How Not to Get Screwed in Vegas,[6] and I Get Paid For This: Taking Notes and Kicking Ass.[7] "Gregarious, curious, game for anything," wrote Los Angeles (magazine) contributor Scott Dickensheets, "Lax turned out to be a gifted stunt journalist—the kind of writer who observes the human condition by ginning up cray-cray scenarios and seeing what happens: walking around in an old-man mask, attempting to reside in the men’s room of a local mall that was marketed as a 'community.' As you can imagine, Vegas offers no shortage of opportunities for that kind of work."[8]

In 2012, Lax created the TV show "Wizard Wars",[9][10] which aired on the Syfy network in 2014.[11][12] After the show's successful premier, Lax was quoted as saying, "I started Wizard Wars because I always felt that creating magic is just as interesting as performing it. I've been saying that for years now, and not everybody believed it. But now that we premiered with over a million viewers--huge, huge numbers--people believe it."[4][13] In September 2014, the show was renewed for another six-episode run.[14]

Magician Justin Flom hosted, produced and edited the original pilot which appears on his popular YouTube channel,[15] and now stars in the Syfy production.[16] Lax continues to work as a show producer and behind-the-scenes magic consultant.[9][17]

In 2011-2013, Lax worked as a behind-the-scenes consultant for David Copperfield (illusionist).[17] Currently, Lax creates close-up illusions for PenguinMagic.com.[18] Lax is also a non-practicing attorney[19] and amateur pianist.[20]
