Richard Simmons (cricketer)

Richard Simmons (born 3 October 1737 at Bridge, Kent; died 25 November 1802 at Bridge) was an English cricketer who played for Kent and All-England in the 1760s and 1770s. He is one of the earliest well-known wicket-keepers.

Simmons, who apparently lived his whole life at Bridge, was a useful batsman. He probably began playing in the late 1750s and was active until 1779, so the statistical record from 1772 includes only the tail-end of his career. He is recorded in 13 known first-class matches from 1772.[1]
