Richard Sánchez (born April 5, 1994) is a Mexican footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Tigres UANL of the Liga MX.

Career

Youth

Born Mission Hills, California, Sánchez moved to Dallas, Texas and started playing with Texas Football Club before joining the Atlético Madrid in Spain.[1] In 2009, Sánchez moved back to Dallas and signed with the FC Dallas Academy.[1]

FC Dallas

On February 18, 2011 it was announced that Sánchez had signed a professional contract with FC Dallas on Major League Soccer, becoming their sixth homegrown player.[1] On November 7, 2012, after spending time with the Dallas reserve team, Sánchez signed an extension to his contract, lasting till 2015.[2]

Fort Lauderdale Strikers (loan)

On July 23, 2013 it was announced that Sánchez would go on loan to the Fort Lauderdale Strikers of the North American Soccer League for the remainder of the season.[3] On 3 August 2013 Sánchez made his professional debut for the Strikers against the New York Cosmos.[4] Sanchez started all 14 games in goal for the Strikers in the Fall season, keeping three clean sheets.

Tigres UANL

On June 24, 2014, it was announced that Sánchez was transferred to Tigres UANL. He made his debut coming in as a substitute in a friendly against San Antonio Scorpions.

FC Dallas

Soon after joining Tigres, Sánchez was loaned back to FC Dallas.

Tigres UANL

Sánchez returned to Tigres UANL in September 12, 2014.

International

Richard became a key figure for Mexico in the 2011 FIFA Under-17 World Cup. He became first choice goalkeeper under coach Raul Gutierrez playing all 7 games. He would eventually make history along with his teammates becoming the first nation to win the tournament on home soil. He would later on play with the under 20 as first choice goalkeeper playing in the 2013 FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Turkey.
