Richard Beamish Cricket Grounds are a cricket ground in the Mardyke, Cork, Ireland.[1]

The ground is officially named after Richard Beamish but it is generally called the Mardyke after the area where it is situated. It is the home ground of Cork County Cricket Club.[1]

History

The club was founded in 1874 but cricket has been played here as far back as 1850.[2]

In 1903 the most famous cricketer of the Victorian era, Sir W.G. Grace, played at the Mardyke for London County against Gentlemen of Ireland. During the years in the run up to the World War I the club played regularly against some of the famous English Touring Teams.

The first recorded match on the ground was in 1866, when Cork County played I Zingari.[3]

An English Counties side made up of County cricketers visited the Mardyke on three occasions in the immediate Post War years. In the late 1960s Glamorgan brought their full team on two occasions and Warwickshire also came in 1969.

Some eighty years later, the ground held its inaugural first-class match when Ireland played Scotland.

Two further first-class matches between the teams were held there in 1961 and 1973.[4]

Grounds consist of Viewing Area with Canopy & Seating, Scorebox, 2No. Practice Nets & Practice Area, Cricket Pavilion with Dining Hall, Home & Away Changing Rooms with Shower & Toilet facilities, Umpires Room & Kitchen Facilities.
