Early life

Rich Riley (born August 17, 1973) grew up in Austin, TX and attended Westlake High School. He received his Bachelor of Science in Economics with concentrations in Finance & Entrepreneurial Management from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.[1]

Career

Rich Riley is the CEO of Shazam Entertainment Limited,[2] one of the world’s most popular apps connecting people to the music, TV and world around them. Riley joined Shazam as CEO in April 2013, after over 13 years at Yahoo![3] And with more than 17 years of experience as an entrepreneur and leading Internet executive.[4] "I look forward to extending our dominance in media engagement, from our roots in music to our leadership position in second-screen TV and want to ensure that Shazam is the company that helps people recognize and engage with the world around them,” Riley said in a statement at the time.[5] The Shazam app has more than 100 million monthly active users and has been used on more than 500 million mobile devices.

He began his career in New York City as a financial analyst at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette (bought by Credit Suisse in August 2000.) Riley joined Yahoo! in January 1999 when Yahoo! acquired Log-Me-On.com, the start-up company he co-founded, which developed and patented what is today the Toolbar.

Riley served as EVP, Americas for Yahoo! reporting to the CEO and prior to that as SVP & MD of the EMEA Region after nine years of roles of increasing responsibilities at Yahoo! HQ in Sunnyvale, CA.

In October 2011, Riley was named "One to Watch" in 40 under 40 (Fortune Magazine); according to Fortune (magazine), those listed are ‘the hottest young stars in business across the globe.’

As Yahoo!'s Global Corporate Sponsor for Sustainability, Riley has been an advocate for environmental awareness. He was a particularly active advocate for the Prince's Rainforest Project, which called for individuals and businesses to sign to do their part to end the eradication of the rainforests.

Personal

Riley lives in New Canaan, Connecticut with his wife and their four children.

He serves on the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania Entrepreneurial Advisory Board and is a Member of the Young Presidents' Organization (YPO).
