Rhyl railway station is on the Crewe to Holyhead North Wales Coast Line and serves the major holiday resort of Rhyl, Wales.

History

The station was the junction for a branch line to Denbigh (the Vale of Clwyd Railway), but this was closed to passengers in September 1955.[1]

Although only two platforms remain in use today, the layout was more substantial until the late 1980s. There was an additional through platform on the southern side and an east-facing bay platform (still intact although now disused) on the northern side, plus a pair of through lines and several carriage sidings. It also has two LNWR-built brick and timber signal boxes,[2] although only the former No.1 box is now operational (the disused No.2 box at the western end remains intact, as it is a listed building).

Facilities

Ticket barriers are in operation at the station.

Services

Monday to Saturday:

On Sundays, there is an hourly service each way - westbound to Holyhead and eastbound to Crewe, plus two through trains to London.
