Revel Systems is an iPad based "point of sale" system, which was co-founded by Lisa Falzone (CEO) and Christopher Ciabarra (CTO).[1]
The first Revel POS system was used at Lappert's Fish and Chips Store in Sausalito, California on September 23, 2010.[2] On May 24, 2011, the Wall Street Journal listed them in the "Top Stories In Today’s VentureWire" section for receiving $3.7 million from DCM.[3] Revel Systems integrates with third party vendors, and offers an open API, allowing others to customize the POS system. Revel Systems released its latest software for the iPad POS, Atlas V2, on February 14, 2012.[4]
Revel Systems has been expanding rapidly. Since achieving financial independence in mid-2012, Revel Systems has doubled in size. Most employees are stationed at the Revel headquarters, located in North Beach, San Francisco. An additional office is located in St. Petersburg, Florida. Revel promotes a reseller program, helping its international expansion. European sales are handled by third-party Bluebird Global.[5] Security is a cornerstone of Revel's point of sale software as a properly licensed system.[6] In keeping with upcoming deadlines for PCI compliance, Revel was the first iPad POS to implement EMV—or "Chip and Pin"—Processing in the United States, in January 2013.[7] Some of Revel’s clients include the following (or franchisees of the following): Little Caesars Pizza, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen, Illy Coffee, Forever Yogurt, and Twistee Treat, among others. Revel has partnered with retail giants Belkin and Goodwill.[8]
POS products
Revel Systems' Point of sale system operates on the Apple iPad. The backend can be managed via mobile or via Web browser. Associated hardware includes: receipt printer, cash drawer, and card swipe.
- Kitchen Display System (KDS) is an optional portion of the POS System that is specific to restaurants. It electronically sends food orders to the kitchen via iPad and notifies the servers when the orders are ready.
- Quick Service POS: Revel's QSR system uses a single ordering screen to process orders quickly.
- Restaurant POS: Revel's POS for table service has features such as table-side ordering, wireless communication to kitchen displays and printers, and table layout screens. An integrated CRM—or Customer Relationship Management--system enables restaurants to keep track of customers' preferences or aversions.
- Grocery POS: Revel's POS for grocery stores contains inventory management and sales reporting to keep track of grocery items from dairy aisle to meat counter.
- Retail POS: Designed for brick and mortar or mobile retail businesses, the Retail POS has integrated matrix inventory, CRM system, and loyalty programs.
- Food Truck POS: Enables Food Truck owners to run payments and manage their business from a 3G or 4G enabled iPad POS. Food truck owners can connect to the Internet via the Revel Router, which utilizes the 3G or 4G connection on the iPad instead of a hardwired router or MiFi hotspot.[9]
- Stadium POS: Designed to handle high volumes of transactions in a short amount of time. Revel was recently installed in the Alabama State University stadium.[10]
- Events POS: Because Revel is a mobile POS solution, it can be used as the point of sale for events. In August 2013 it was adopted by Juicys, a purveyor of county fair food for events.[11]
- Drive-through POS: Revel offers a video drive-through POS system that enables customers to order food at a drive-through via a video feed on an iPad.[12]
The Revel App is available for download in the iTunes App store. Users are encouraged to try the app for free before they buy.[13]
Features
- Inventory Management: This feature allows business owners to keep track of and manage their inventory, directly from the backend management console or mobile device
- Always On Mode: Allows businesses to continue operating the POS system, including accepting payments, in the event of an Internet outage. Data will re-sync with the cloud once connectivity returns.
- WiFi Management: This feature helps a business establish a strong WiFi network through the use of the ISP provided modem, and additional routers and access points.
- Delivery Management Console: With the delivery management console, business owners track orders, employees, and deliveries.
- Customer Relationship Management: or CRM, allows businesses to keep track of their customers and customer preferences.
- Matrix Inventory: This feature allows retail businesses to better track inventory consisting of multiple styles and sizes while also reducing complications within the POS ordering screen.
- QuickBooks Integration: Users can export reports into the file type of their choice (including CSV, XLS, and JSON) and import into QuickBooks for accounting purposes.[14]
- Purchase Order Generation: This feature allows business owners to maintain a database of vendors as well as create, track, and verify purchase orders.
- Payroll Management: Provides users with the ability to track and audit labor hours so that employees can be paid correctly and timely.
- Online Ordering: Users can integrate their website's online ordering with the Revel POS, allowing their customers to place orders online and set pickup times.
- Bitcoin integration: Revel has partnered with digital wallet provider Coinbase to allow merchants to accept Bitcoin on the Revel POS. The consumer can use the digital wallet of his choosing.[15]
Hardware
Revel Systems offers a range of preconfigured hardware to complement its point of sale system.
- iPad: The Apple iPad acts as a business's main POS terminal, or register. Transactions, orders, and various other functions take place on the iPad POS.
- iPad Mini: The iPad Mini is used as a POS terminal for customer-facing kiosks and table-side ordering.
- iPod Touch: The Apple iPod Touch serves as a line-buster, or as a customer-facing display.
- Epson Printers: Revel works with the Epson printer models TM-T70; TM-U220; and TM-T88. These printers are used for receipt or kitchen printing, depending on the model.
- Wireless Routers & Access Points: Revel works with the following routers: AirPort Express and Airport Extreme. Revel uses Ubiquiti Networks' UniFi WiFi Management for wireless access points.
- Cash Drawer: Revel works with APG Vasario Cash Drawer (1616 Model)
