Reuben David
Reuben David (1912–1989) was the founder of the Ahmedabad Zoo.[1][2] He was born into a Bene Israel Jewish family in Ahmedabad. He was a self-taught veterinarian. He was invited by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation in 1951 to create a zoo in the city.[3] With help of his wife Sarah and his brother Dr. Jacob David, he created the Kamla Nehru Zoological Garden, the Chacha Nehru Children's Park, and the Reuben David Natural History Museum.
Reuben David was honored with the Padmashri in 1975 by the government of India.[4]
His daughter, Esther David, is an Indian author who lives in Ahmedabad.
