Renato Dossena (born 14 April 1987) is an Italian footballer who plays for Carpi as a goalkeeper.

Biography

Born in Savona, Liguria, Dossena started his career with Ligurian club Genoa but released in 2002. He then spent his youth career at Empoli, Tuscany. Since 2005–06, he also awarded a shirt number (37) in the first team to play as a backup keeper. He spent 2 seasons with Serie C2 club Rovigo in 2006–07 and 2007–08 season and played as a regular starter. Rovigo also signed him in co-ownership deal in 2007.

In 2008–09 Serie B season, Dossena returned to Empoli[1] and played as the understudy of Davide Bassi, ahead Gianmarco D'Oria, then ahead Alberto Pelagotti in 2009–10 Serie B. In 2010–11 Serie B season, Empoli loaned Bassi to Torino and sent Dossena to Barletta in co-ownership deal;[2] Empoli signed Jasmin Handanovič as replacement and promoted Pelagotti to second keeper.

At Barletta, he was the backup of Andrea Tesoniero, ahead Giuseppe Di Masi. He also played twice in 2010–11 Coppa Italia Lega Pro.[3][4]

On 31 January 2011, he was exchanged with defender Giovanni Bruno of Calcio Como, his co-ownership deal with Empoli also terminated in favour of Empoli.[5]

On 1 July 2011 he returned to Empoli. Despite he picked no.1 shirt, the first choice was the fellow youth graduate Pelagotti. Since round 30 Dossena became the first choice and Dossena was the protagonist to win the relegation "play-out".[6] Dossena only conceded 13 goals in his 14 appearances, a much improvement than Pelagotti.

In the round 10 of 2012–13 Serie B, Dossena became the understudy of Bassi again.

On 2 September 2013 Dossena was signed by Venezia in 1-year deal.[7]
