Renacer is the fifth studio album by American post-hardcore band Senses Fail released on March 26, 2013.[6] It is the first album without founding member and guitarist Garrett Zablocki. Jason Black, the band's bassist did not participate in the writing/recording of the album due to obligations with Hot Water Music, Zack Roach instead performed bass on the album. It is also the last album to feature long time drummer, Dan Trapp, as he parted ways with the band in late 2014.

Sound and theme

According to the band's bio-page on Staple Records, the album title "Renacer" means "to be reborn" in Spanish. This serves as the main theme of the album as Buddy wanted to take a heavier and more adventurous creative direction.[7]

About the sound of the new album, Buddy stated:

I’ve always wanted the band to move towards being less pop-driven and heavier and more exploratory. We needed to change it up, do something different and move forward. We wanted there to be space, because we wanted the record to sound heavy and open. If you want something to sound heavy, it’s about the space, not necessarily just the chord structures or the screaming.

On the band choosing to work with Shaun Lopez instead of Brian McTernan (who produced the bands last three full-lengths) Buddy said:

We needed to change everything up. I don’t think we would have written these types of songs if we knew we were going with McTernan. We would have had a different approach. Dan and I said, ‘Let’s do something different: Let’s get someone different, let’s record it somewhere else, let’s write with some other people, let’s not put any boundaries on what we want to do.’

The album has a heavy sound to it and even has some growls, screams, and breakdowns. However, it does not entirely abandon their old post-hardcore sound.[8]
