Release from Agony is the third full-length album by German thrash metal band Destruction, released in 1988. It was the first Destruction full-length album to feature four members.
Songs
Some of the album's songs narrate themes that deal with topics including government and corrupt politics, while others tell stories of fleeing or committing murder.
"Release from Agony" paints the picture of the protagonist trying to escape something that is coming to kill him in his dreams, and he cannot sleep because of it.
"Dissatisfied Existence" tells how the protagonist has "gone about his own affairs" but yet is still faced with "other person's problems" and is trying to find the "meaning of his life".
"Sign of Fear" talks about the turmoil of bad relationships and what it is like to be on unwanting of love and affection.
"Unconscious Ruins" tells how people can "fade into the crowd" and easily be manipulated toward their own fate.
"Incriminated" makes references to Adolf Hitler and the Third Reich and asks why the people (as Destruction hails from Germany) have to suffer from the events that took place forty years earlier.
"Our Oppression" bashes the weaknesses of democracy and states that we do not justly elect officials, they can easily be won over with bribes, and our freedom is stripped away from us.
"Survive to Die" explains how the protagonist is fed up with the everything the antagonist has done and is plotting to kill him.
