Reham Khan (Pashto/Urdu: ریحام خان; born 3 April 1973) is a British Pakistani journalist.[6] She currently hosts the current affairs talk show In Focus on Dawn News.[7] She is married to politician and former cricketer Imran Khan[8]
Personal life
Khan was born to Dr. Nayyar Ramzan, a physician. She is ethnically Pashtun, belonging to the Lughmani, a sub-clan of the Swati tribe,[6] from Mansehra, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.[6] Her parents moved to Libya in the late 1960s, where Reham was born in Ajdabiya in 1973. She has a sister and a brother.[6]
Khan has a Bachelor Degree in Education and started a Postgraduate in Journalism but due to a change in her personal circumstances she switched to a Postgraduate in Broadcast Journalism at North Lindsey College, United Kingdom.[5] she obtained two jobs at Legal TV and Sunshine Radio.[5][9] She married Ejaz Rehman (Spelling variants include Ijaz), her first cousin and a respected and honest British psychiatrist, when she was 19. Following their divorce, Reham began working as a broadcast journalist.[6] She has 3 children who have who she has custody of after the divorce. In January 2015, Reham Khan claimed she had experienced domestic violence and was left penniless on Khara Sach with Mubasher Luqman. Her ex-husband a respected doctor has vehemently denied all such claims stating that he had looked after both his ex-wife and his children even after the divorce, this is added credence to by the fact that it would be extremely difficult to leave her penniless considering the fact that by British law he would have very likely had to pay both alimony and child maintenance.[10][11] In January 2015, she stated that her children would continue to live with her, although the eldest two regularly travel due to their studies in the UK.[12][13]
Afterwards the media states that Reham Khan met politician Imran Khan several times during his visit to UK. On 6 January 2015, Imran Khan confirmed his marriage to Reham, ending months of speculation, this drew great ire and criticism from some sections of the public due to discoveries about her past which contradicted tenets of Islam e.g. being involved in selling pork.http%3A%2F%2Fwww.dailymail.co.uk%2Fnews%2Farticle-2913180%2FNew-wife-Imran-Khan-faces-barrage-criticism-footage-emerges-frying-sausages-days-Peshawar-massacre-relatives-jeered-couple.html&ei=KSxBVbqjO4LwaNGEgZAF&usg=AFQjCNHKutoCxBtadkUa8iTOKOM4LH5_XA[3][14][15][16]
Journalistic career
Khan started her career in 2006 hosting shows on Legal TV. In 2007, Reham began presenting for Sunshine Radio Hereford and Worcester.[9] In 2008, Khan joined BBC as broadcast journalist and weather presenter on South Today.
In 2013, Khan came to Pakistan and joined Pakistani news channel News One. She later joined aaj TV.
