Malawi is divided into 3 regions which comprise a combined total of 28 districts.

The regions of Malawi are:

•      Northern Region

Population: 1,708,930 (2008 census)

Area: 26,931 km² (10,398 sq mi)

Capital:Mzuzu

•      Central Region -

Population: 5,510,195 (2008 census)

Area: 35,592 km² (13,742 sq mi)

Capital: Lilongwe

•      Southern Region

Population: 5,876,784 (2008 census)

Area: 31,753 km² (12,260 sq mi)

Capital: Blantyre.
