Rebel Music is the upcoming EP by American rapper MC Ren, set to be released in 2015 through his own record company Villain Entertainment.
Background
After having announced that he was working on his fifth studio album, MC Ren immediately reached out to E-A-Ski for production. The pair worked together and released the single and title track early 2014. Shortly after the single's released, MC Ren announced that E-A-Ski was set to produced the whole album. During the process of the album making, MC Ren went out and said that he was releasing an EP instead of an album.
Lyrics and production
The whole EP is set to be produced by E-A-Ski. MC Ren confirmed this during an interview with HipHopDX and explained this decitions of using one producer on his whole album:
"Back in the day, that’s how all the great albums got done. All you needed was one producer, or one group of producers. Look at Public Enemy and the Bomb Squad. Look at Herbie Love Bug and Dre, and look at Mark the 45 King. You can go down the line and name a list of people that worked with one producer...Prince Paul with De La Soul. When you work with one producer, you can focus. Me, I feel like I can focus better with one producer that’s on the same page with me...someone that’s not no overnight producer. He really takes his craft as serious as I take my craft. I know I don’t have to keep explaining what I’m thinking in my head, and explaining it to four or five different producers so they can try to get on the same page. I got him that’s right there with me. I can just lock in and be focused from beginning to end, boom, boom, boom."[1]
Singles
So far two singles has been released. The first single, "Rebel Music, was released on March 27, 2014. The single, like the rest of the EP, is produced by E-A-Ski. It was a constant hit and got some airplay on underground radio stations. The remix of the single, "Rebel Music (Remix)", was released on June 9, 2014 and features fellow N.W.A bandmember Ice Cube.
The second single, "Burn Radio Burn", was released on December 29, 2014 and features E-A-Ski protege Redd Tha Rsonist.
