Rebecca Louisa Ferguson[1] (born 19 October 1983) is a Swedish actress.[2]

Personal life

Ferguson grew up in the Vasastaden district in central Stockholm. Her mother, Rosemary, is English, and moved to Sweden from England at the age of 25.[3] As a student, she attended the Adolf Fredrik's Music School in Stockholm.[4] She currently lives with her boyfriend and young child in the seaside town of Simrishamn, on the Swedish south coast. Ferguson has said she wanted to get away from city life and the public spotlight following her soap opera success. In Simrishamn, she started drifting away from acting, ran an Argentine dance studio, and also worked on several short film art projects.[5] Swedish director Richard Hobert spotted her at the town market in 2011. He recognized her and this led to her starring in his film A One – Way to Antibes.[6]

There are claims that Ferguson may be a distant relative of Sarah, Duchess of York ("Fergie").[7]

Career

She played the lead role of upper-class girl Anna Gripenhielm in the soap-opera Nya tider and later played Chrissy in the Swedish-American soap Ocean Ave.. Ferguson has also appeared in films, including A One-Way Trip to Antibes, the horror film Strandvaskaren and the upcoming film Vi alongside Gustaf Skarsgård.[8][9]

In August 2012, it was announced Ferguson had been cast to play Elizabeth Woodville in the ten-part British historical drama The White Queen,[10] based on Philippa Gregory's The Cousins' War novels about the women of the Wars of the Roses.[11] Ferguson's role in The White Queen has been met with praise,[12] winning her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress – Miniseries or Television Film. On July 9, 2014, it was announced that Ferguson had been cast as the female lead in 2015's Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation.[13]
