Ratan Kumar Sinha is an Indian mechanical engineer who serves as the Chairman of Atomic Energy Commission of India.[2][3]

Sinha, then Director of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), took over as the new Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) and Secretary, Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) on 30 April 2012.[4]

Sinha assumed the charge from Srikumar Banerjee, who headed the AEC for the prior two and a half years. Sinha was succeeded by Shekhar Basu as the New Director of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre.

Having topped the Mechanical Engineering course from Patna University in 1972,[5] Sinha completed a course at the BARC Training school and joined the Reactor Engineering Division of BARC in 1973. As Director of BARC, he has been guiding the programmes for new advanced reactors under design and development at BARC to utilize thorium.

The programmes that Sinha has been associated with include the Advanced heavy water reactor, which produced most of its power from thorium, and the Indian High Temperature Reactor intended for hydrogen generation.
