Rani Hamid (Bengali: রাণী হামিদ; born 1944) is a Bangladeshi chess Woman International Master.[1] Currently she is the only WIM in Bangladesh.[2]

Early life and career

Hamid was born Sayeda Jasimunnessa Khatun in Sylhet, Bangladesh in 1944. She was awarded the FIDE Woman International Master (WIM) title in 1985. She has won the British Women's Championship in 1983, 1985 and 1989.

She is the only female chess player in history to win the National Chess Championships. Her son Kaiser Hamid was a soccer player for Mohammedan Sporting Club and the captain of Bangladesh Football Team during the 1980s and 1990s. Her other son, Sohel Hamid, was a national squash champion.[1]
