Departments

Engineering

The Ramrao Adik Institute of Technology was started in 1983. The institute offers an undergraduate as well as a post-graduate curriculum which includes a four-year bachelor of engineering in Computers, Electronics, Instrumentation, Information Technology and Electronics and Telecommunication engineering and two-year master's degree in Computer and Electronics Engineering.

The Department of Computer Engineering offers advanced courses like Digital Signal Processing, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Networks and Communication. There are ten laboratories including software, computer graphics, data structure, and image processing labs, and a central server room to fulfill the requirement of the undergraduate curriculum.

The Department of Electronics was established in 1983 and offers under- and post-graduate programs of four and two years respectively. The laboratories include Electronics Devices, Electrical Machines, Microprocessors, Integrated Circuits, Digital and Switching.

The Department of Information Technology (IT) came into existence in 1999 to keep pace with developments in the IT sector. It offers courses like image processing, computer vision, and artificial intelligence. Laboratories assist the teaching process.

The Department of Electronics and Telecommunication was set up in 2000, with an intake of 60 students. The department houses laboratories for electric devices, digital switching, microwave engineering, communication and advance communication engineering and signal processing.

The Department of Instrumentation Engineering offers courses like equipment design, analog and digital control systems. There are laboratories for process instrumentation, analytical instrumentation and electronics instrumentation.

Students have secured top positions in university, GATE, CAT, GMAT, TOEFL, GRE, etc.

Technical events are held under the auspices of technical societies like CSI, IEEE, IETE, and ISA. Students participate in technical and creative paper presentations, competitions on coding, quizzes, discussion, and other technical activities.

The Department of Electronics has organized a national seminar on DSP, VLSI and embedded system and wireless communication. Consultancy and sponsored projects are undertaken by the departments from MNCs, MIT, DST.

Industryinstitute partnership is always encouraged. Testimony to this is constant interaction through regular visit to companies like RCF, Forbes Marshall, Total Honey Well and Fests Control. Final year B.E. projects undertaken by students are carried out in research institutes like BARC and IIT Mumbai.

Electronics engineering

The Electronics Engineering Department was begun in 1983. Courses such as electronic circuits and design, microprocessors, electronic instrumentation, analog integrated circuits, digital integrated circuits, signals and systems, wireless communications, wave theory and propagation, filter theory and data communication comprise the department's core curriculum. Technical events under the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers aegis are organised through the year.

After the Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics Engineering degree course was begun in 1983, the Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics and Telecommunication degree course was added to the department in 2002. The intake for Electronics Engineering is 120 students, and for Electronics and Telecommunication 90 students per academic year. The Electronics Engineering degree course is accredited by the National Board of Accreditation.[3]

Instrumentation Engineering

Ramrao Adik Institute of Technology is one of the few colleges of Mumbai University having this department, which was begun in 1998. The curriculum includes courses such as Process Instrumentation, Process Equipment Design, and Analog and Digital Control Systems. Laboratories such as Process Instrumentation, Analytical Instrumentation and Electronics Instrumentation are being set up in the department, which offers a Bachelor of Engineering in Instrumentation Engineering degree course with an intake capacity of 60 students per academic year. RAIT is the Western Regional Center for distance-learning programs in Electronics and Control, Software Systems, and Systems and Information of the Birla Institute of Technology and Science in Pilani. Software packages have been developed in-house: computerized admission and merit lists, follow-up operation, enrollment lists, attendance registers, examination results, the processing of final-year projects and library allocations and monitoring.

Campus life

Sports

The Institute offers opportunities for students to enjoy their leisure time, with facilities for indoor and outdoor sports. At Navi Mumbai, the D. Y. Patil Sports Academy Recreation and Sports Center (managed by the Guild of Students) has a multi-sport facility for table tennis, basketball, chess and badminton. The D. Y. Patil Sports Academy (DYPSA) was founded in Navi Mumbai to develop and promote cricket in the city. The Academy has several members who have played for the Ranji Trophy. The 60,000-seat DY Patil Stadium has been built, which (along with Wankhede Stadium) hosted the Mumbai Indians during the 2008 Indian Premier League season.

The Computer Society of India (CSI-RAIT) is a student organization which organises college's technical events. 'Techmate' and 'Techknow' in odd and even semester respectively. In addition to technical events, seminars, hands-on events, the CSI-RAIT organises technical-paper prepresentations and games. All these events are solely managed by students with the help of professors. CSI-RAIT is the most active organisation of college, popular among all the students. Along with these two mega events CSI-RAIT also features other activities like workshops, industrial visits, pariyojna, etc. CSI-RAIT has a magazine 'COZINE', started in 2009. Its website is at http://www.csi.rait.ac.in

College's IEEE Student Branch (IEEE-RAIT) organizes the annual technical event, Whizion, during August and September. Events include three levels of robotics competitions, presentations of research papers, hardware/software contests, technical quizzes and other events. IEEE-RAIT also organizes 360 Degrees (in conjunction with five other engineering colleges from Mumbai) in February. It has a website, which provides information about its events and activities. Its extra activities other than technical events are seminars by renowned speakers, workshops, out-of-state industrial visits and others. It has a yearly technical news letter called Vision Infinity and a technical magazine called Brackets which is distributed all over Maharashtra and some important colleges in India. IEEE-RAIT is one of the most popular technical organization in Mumbai.

The Institute's ISA Students Section (ISA-RAIT) organizes Niyantran (another technical event) in February. Niyantran includes robotics competitions, paper presentations, hardware contests and technical quizzes. For the 2007 ISA-RAIT Niyantran it collaborated with other engineering colleges in Navi Mumbai and hosted the event at RAIT. ISA-RAIT hosts an annual workshop for the Instrumentation Department and a quarterly Industrial Visit [IV] for their department.
