Ramesh Menon

Ramesh Menon is an Indian author.

Biography

Ramesh Menon, is an author, journalist, documentary film maker and corporate trainer. He was born in Bangalore on 18 October 1955. He grew up in Pune. He completed his B.A. (English Lit.) from Nowrosjee Wadia College and completed his B.J. (Bachelor of Journalism) from the University of Poona. He then completed his Masters in Mass Communication. He completed a Certificate Course in Film Appreciation from Film and Television Institute, Pune and another Certificate Course in Development Journalism from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. He is the son of T. Madhavan Menon and Janaki Menon. He is married to Geeta Menon and lives in Noida. His son, Vijay Menon, lives in Dubai.

Career

He has 38 years of varied media experience with newspapers, television channels and the new media. He started as a columnist with Poona Herald in 1977. He was a reporter with The Times of India, Associate Editor, India Today, Executive Producer, Business India Television, TV Today, Roving Editor of rediff.com and Advisor at The Energy and Resources Institute.

He is presently the Managing Editor, of two fortnightly magazines, India Legal, a politico-legal magazine www.indialegalonline.com and Views on News, a media magazine www.viewsonnewsonline.com

Earlier, he had freelanced for numerous newspapers, magazines and websites and writes on development issues for www.indiatogether.org, www.boloji.com, DNA, Reader’s Digest http://www.rdasia.com/arvind_kejriwal, Tehelka, http://tehelka.com/tag/hiware-bazar/, Prevention and many other publications.

He has directed and scripted numerous documentaries on social and environmental issues.

• Directed, Scripted and Produced: Taj Mahal - Not a Love Story a 30-minute documentary for the World Bank and Business India Television. Was entered in the competitive section of an International film festival in 1997. Was also screened at an environmental film festival in Hyderabad, 1997. Was aired on TVI numerous times.

“Climate Change”, a documentary for the United Nations Environment Programme and the Indian Ministry of Environment.

Was screened at the international meet, COP-8. (Conference of Parties-8) where climate experts from all over the world attended. • Directed and Scripted “Global Warning” a 24 minute film financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. Deals with the challenges of climate change and how it will impact the world. This film was one of the 24 Indian films nominated by Vatavaran, India’s exclusive Environment and Wildlife Film Festival 2003.

• Directed and scripted “Climate Change” a short film that was showcased at COP-8 in New Delhi that was attended by climate change experts from all over the world.

• Directed and Scripted “The Slow Poisoning of India”, a 26 minute film on pesticide poisoning in agriculture and the damage it does as chemicals enter our food cycle. Search for it on www.freedocumentaries.com

• Directed and Scripted “A New Dawn in the Himalayas”, a 24 minute film supported by the United Nations Environment Programme. It talks of how women in Uttaranchal and Himachal are trying to get round their problems of acute water and fuel wood shortage and how micro credit has helped many see a new day.
