Raja Devasish Roy

His Majesty Raja Devasish Roy is the 51st Chakma Raja (King) of the Royal Chakma Kingdom. He is also the Chief of the Chakma Circle in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.

Personal life

His Majesty was born in Chittagong in 10 April 1959. His parents are His Majesty 50th Chakma King Raja Tridiv Roy and Rani Arati Roy.

His nickname is "Godu" which is derived from "Goda-Ram" which itself speaks about the "Goda" or Kaptai Dam which was under construction when he was born.

Children

He has three children. Two of them, Crown prince Rajkumar Tribhuvan Aryadev Roy (b. 1990) and Princess Rajkumari Aradhana Ayetri Roy (b. 1994) with the (Late) Queen Her Majesty Rani Tatu Roy (1965-1998) and Yoddha Devayana (2015) with his second Queen Rani Yan Yan (b. 1983).

Professional Life

Raja Devasish Roy is a Member of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues a high powered United Nations United Nations Economic and Social Council/United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs body which provides a globally united platform for indigenous peoples to discuss and raise their concerns to the United Nations and its global audience.

He is a Barrister-at-Law and Human rights expert and Indigenous peoples Expert by Profession. He is an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. He is also an Adviser to the Government of Bangladesh in the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts, Ministry of Environment.

He was Special Assistant to Chief Adviser in 2006-2009 during Caretaker government rule in Bangladesh. He held the rank and status of State minister with two portfolios of Chittagong Hill Tracts and Forests and Environment.
