Railway Staff College

The National Academy of Indian Railways or Bharatiya Rail Rashtriya Akademy (in Hindi), earlier known as Railway Staff College, is the management training institute for the officers of the Indian Railways. The college trains newly appointed officers, senior managers and executives. The college also trains officers of other Group A services of the Government of India

The college is housed in the Pratap Vilas Palace, Vadodara

History

The college was founded in 1930 at Prem Nagar, Dehradun District, and then shifted to its present regal sylvan surroundings at Vadodara, in 1952. It is housed in the Pratap Vilas Palace (built in 1914) surrounded by lush green lawns and designed by C.F. Stevens in the renaissance style. The property comprising 55 acres (220,000 m2) of garden and wooded land, enlivened by the calls of peacocks and migratory birds, was purchased from the Gaikwads (erstwhile rulers) of Vadodara.

Training of Personnel of Indian Railways

Indian Railways employs over 1.25 million personnel (including 15,000 group ‘A’ and group ‘B’ officers). The training of non-gazetted staff is organised at 55 Main Training Centers and 222 Other Training Centers (i.e., Area Training Centers, Basic Training Centers, Divisional Training Centers, Multi Disciplinary Training Centers etc.). Training of officers is conducted at seven Centralised Training Institutes (CTIs), e.g.

The Academy

The National Academy of Indian Railways is headed by a Director General (of the rank of General Manager in Indian Railways and Special Secretary in Government of India). At present, Sanjay Mookerjee is the Director General. There are 24 faculty members who are experts in their respective technical areas (i.e., Accounts, Personnel, Medical, Management, Engineering etc.).

Administratively, all the CTIs come under the Training Directorate of Ministry of Railways (Railway Board), Government of India which also actively monitors the training programs conducted by them. The Training Directorate is headed by Executive Director (Training & Man Power Planning), Rajiv Ranjan Prasad and Director, Himadri Moharana.
