Rafael da Silva Floro (born 19 January 1994) is a professional footballer currently playing as a defender for Sheffield Wednesday.
Career
Rafael Floro started his career at home town club Quarteirense before moving to other youth clubs in Portugal: Sporting CP, Académica, Almansilense, Louletano DC and FC Porto. He was called up to the Portugal U-18 squad throughout the 2011–12 season.
Over a year after and Floro was released by Porto and he went on trial at English second tier side Sheffield Wednesday where after impressing through pre-season and due to injuries to all of Sheffield Wednesday's full-backs Rafael Floro signed on a one-year contract on 6 August 2013. Just hours later and Floro made his first ever professional competitive appearance when he played in the League Cup against Sheffield Wednesday's local rivals Rotherham United. Floro was substituted off in the second-half of the game as his side lost 2–1 at the first stage of the competition.[1]
Floro made his first league appearance the following weekend for Sheffield Wednesday when he played in the home game against Burnley. However, after two crosses leading to conceding two goals in the first-half, Floro was substituted at half-time.[2]
In May 2014, Rafa was selected in coach Ilidio Vale’s Portugal U20 squad for the Toulon Festival Tournament in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of South Eastern France. He made four appearances in the tournament against Mexico, Chile, France and England.
