Race America (also known as Corvette ZR-1 Challenge[2]) is a racing video game for the Nintendo Entertainment System. The art style is in a Western art style; a clear sign of its non-Japanese origin.[3] In addition to this, this game was never released in Japan under either title due to the popularity of Honda and Toyota in that country as opposed to Chevrolet and Dodge. The European version received the Chevrolet license to use its Corvette vehicles while the North American version had to be redesigned into vehicles that strongly resembled Dodge Vipers.[3]
Gameplay
The game involves at driving on America's roads at approximately 200 miles (320 km) per hour from Boston to Los Angeles - a whopping 2,990 miles (4,810 km) from start to finish.[4] In the 2-player mode, the players race against each other using the same car model, but of different colours. Whereas, in the 1-player mode, each player must try to gain personal glory by competing against eight computer-controlled players who can race their way across the United States of America.[4] However, the drivers have fictional names and are neither based on the Formula One or the NASCAR Winston Cup (now Sprint Cup Series) racers of that era.[4] If the game was based on real world physics, it would take at least fourteen days to get from Boston to Los Angeles (providing that only fuel stops were made and no attempts were made to get some sleep).
