Quote.com is a website that delivers financial content and trading tools to active traders and individual investors. It provides free access to delayed worldwide quotes, charts and financial news covering major markets and more than 50 exchanges, including NYSE, NASDAQ, the London Stock Exchange and the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
Market coverage extends beyond U.S. and international stocks to include a range of global futures, options and foreign exchange data from sources such as CBOT, CME, NYMEX/COMEX, ICE, Eurex, and Euronext. The site features a large compilation of free global market data, trading tools and financial news, as well as mutual fund information, a portfolio manager with email alerts and a personal finance section.[1]
Quote.com provides home pages visible to international users in 18 countries, including Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Singapore, Spain and the United Kingdom. These country-specific financial portals give active investors access to each country's major domestic markets and deliver region-specific financial news.[2]
Site visitors can also choose from daily and intraday advanced charting with capabilities that include multiple studies, such as moving averages, Bollinger bands, Fibonacci and more, as well as interactive charts with customizable features, including a time slider.[3]
A personal finance section with articles and calculators helps U.S. users navigate through some financial challenges and includes advice on preparing to pay for retirement and college tuition, as well as researching mortgages and car loans, tips for managing debt, saving money, preparing for tax season, and more.
Visitors can create widgets for quotes and charts, Hotlists, or a search function and embed the widgets onto their website or blog. For those who want to test their trading skills, the Stock Simulator offers a way to compete against other traders, share portfolios, rate stocks, and engage in forum discussions.
History
Founded in 1993, Quote.com was one of the first financial portals: it provided stock quotes, detailed market data on options, commodity futures, mutual funds and bonds; real-time business news; market analysis; balance-sheet data; and company profiles.[4] In 1997, Quote.com and ClariNet Communications forged an alliance to provide financial market data, including news, quotes, charts, research and analysis over ClariNet's online news services.[4]
In 1999, Quote.com became part of the Lycos Network when Lycos, Inc. acquired the company for $78.3 million in stock. Quote.com was among the top five investment information sites on the web at that time.[5] Known as the Lycos Finance division, Quote.com expanded with the subscription-based QCharts and LiveCharts services that provided real-time streaming data.[6] In 2006, Interactive Data Corporation acquired the assets of Quote.com and certain other related assets from Lycos, Inc. for $30 million in cash.[7] In 2013, Quote.com was purchased by Dan Wesley.[8]
