Joaquim Alberto Ferreira Machado, commonly known as Quim Berto (born 9 October 1971 in Guimarães), is a Portuguese retired footballer who played as a defender (right or left back), and a current manager.

Football career

Over the course of 11 seasons Quim Berto amassed top division totals of 238 games and 18 goals, in representation of Vitória de Guimarães, Sporting Clube de Portugal and Varzim SC. In the 2001 summer he signed for S.L. Benfica but never appeared officially for the team, spending one years on loan to the latter club, before signing permanently in 2002.

Additionally, Berto appeared in 186 second level matches. In that category, in the 2003–04 campaign, he scored a career-best ten goals in 30 games for Varzim, mostly through his main asset, free kicks.

Quim Berto retired in June 2010 at nearly 39 years of age after spending four seasons with F.C. Vizela, the last in division three. On 27 July of the following year, he was appointed his last team's manager.[1]
