Quickoffice was a freeware proprietary productivity suite for mobile devices which allowed viewing, creating and editing documents, presentations and spreadsheets. It consisted of Quickword (a word processor), Quicksheet (a spreadsheet) and QuickPoint (a presentation program). The programs were compatible with Microsoft Office file formats, but not the OpenDocument file format.[4]

Quickoffice is commonly used in smartphones and tablets. It is available on Barnes & Noble's Nook Color, a more advanced version of their Nook electronic reader.[5] There was a project to port Quickoffice to Chromebooks in February 2014.[6]

History

Quickoffice, Inc., a company in Plano, Texas, founded in 2002, originally developed the free QuickOffice and paid-for QuickOffice Pro and QuickOffice Pro HD apps.

On June 5, 2012, Google acquired Quickoffice, Inc., along with its team of developers, for an undisclosed sum.[7][8][9] Google re-released Quickoffice as a free app on September 19, 2013,[10] and includes it with its Android operating system from version 4.4 KitKat.[11]

After having integrated the features of Quickoffice into its own newly released Google Docs, Google Sheets and Google Slides apps, on 29 June 2014, Google announced that Quickoffice was to be discontinued, and was removed from the Google Play Store and App Store.
