Queen Sugar is an upcoming American drama television series, created, directed and executive produced by Ava DuVernay alongside Oprah Winfrey. The series is based on novel with same name by Natalie Baszile.[1] Queen Sugar was officially ordered straight-to-series on February 2, 2015.[1][2][3][4] The series set to air on Oprah Winfrey Network.[1][2]
Series overview
The series follows the life of Charley Bordelon, a modern woman, who leaves with her teenage daughter Micah from upscale apartment in Los Angeles and moved to in the heart of Louisiana. In Louisiana she claim an inheritance from her recently departed father – an 800-acre sugar cane farm. Ava DuVernay and Oprah Winfrey, who worked in the 2014 film Selma, co-created the series, while DuVernay is set to write and direct Queen Sugar. Winfrey will have a recurring role in the series.[1] The first season set to shoot on fall 2015.[2]
