Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School, Alford (QEGS) is a selective, co-educational, academy status Grammar School and Sixth Form in Alford, Lincolnshire, England.

Admissions

QEGS has specialist status as a Business and Enterprise college and recently became a Training school. The school currently has 542 pupils on roll.

The headteacher is Miss A. Francis.

History

The school motto is Cor Unum Via Una which translates as "One heart, one way," and is also the title of the school song. The school was first established in 1566 with the donation of £50 from an Alford merchant. In 1576 a charter was granted by Queen Elizabeth I "for the Education, Instruction and bringing up of children and Youth for ever to continue." In 1959, a new block was added to the school in preparation for the admittance of girls. The school attained grant-maintained status in 1989, and in 1999 was given Foundation status.

In 2004 the school achieved business and enterprise status. This enabled the school to fund a new ICT and Business and Mathematics suite which contains interactive whiteboards, projectors, 48 computers, video conferencing facilities, and a further ICT room to the school's existing three. The suite was completed in 2006 after a six month overrun on the building project. In February 2007 the Schools Intranet was upgraded with pupils able to access their own computerised documents (H: drive), and shared documents (I: drive), from home. The school was judged "Outstanding" in the Ofsted inspection of March 2007.

Academic performance

The school achieves a high pass rate at Year 11. In most years 97% or more pupils gain 5 or more C's or above at GCSE.[1] In 2007 and 2013 the percentage of pupils gaining 5 A* - C grades reached 100%.

QEGS' range of offered subjects varies with pupil age. Sociology and Psychology are offered in Sixth Form.
