History

QLogic was created in 1992 after being spun off by Emulex; the two are now competitors for the Fibre Channel HBA market. QLogic's original business was disk controllers. This business was sold to Marvell in 2005. QLogic went public in 1994 and is traded on NASDAQ under the symbol QLGC.

The company has achieved a number of milestones and industry firsts during its 20-year history. In 1994, QLogic started shipping TEC (Triple Embedded Controller) chips for hard disc drives. In 1996, the company developed the first embedded transceiver Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapter Chip (the first Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapter). QLogic introduced the first Fibre Channel HDC in 1997. In 2000, the company brought to market the first end-to-end SAN solution and the first 2Gb Fibre Channel Adapters. In 2004, QLogic became the market share leader for Fibre Channel Adapters. The company has continued to hold this leadership position to the present time. Also in 2004, QLogic introduced the industry’s first 10Gb Fibre Channel technology (FCoE) and the first stackable Fibre Channel Switch. In 2006, QLogic was the first company to ship more than 1 million Fibre Channel Adapter ports during one year. The company introduced the industry’s first FcoE Converged Network Adapter and first end-to-end 8Gb network in 2008. In 2009, QLogic developed the industry’s first fully integrated single-chip Converged Network Adapter with full FCoE offload.

QLogic has acquired many companies over the years including Ancor, Little Mountain Group, PathScale, SilverStorm and NetXen. To date, the company has achieved 75 consecutive quarters of profitability. It has shipped more than 15 million Fibre Channel ports.

QLogic was led by chairman H.K. Desai[3] from 1996 until his death in June 2014.[4] Prasad Rampalli is the company's CEO.
