The Pune International Film Festival (PIFF) (Marathi: पुणे आंतरराष्ट्रीय चित्रपट महोत्सव) is an annual film festival held in Pune, Maharashtra, India, since its inception in 2002. The festival aims at bringing the best in world cinema to the culturally rich city of Pune, thereby giving filmmakers a platform to showcase their craft to the film buffs of the city of Pune. The city gives credence to this event, as it already churns the best fresh talent for the celluloid industry, through the presence of FTII (Film and Television Institute of India). The festival dubbed as the Official Film Festival of the State of Maharashtra is supported by the Pune Film Foundation and the Maharashtra State Government.[1] The festival is an important date on the calendar for film buffs, filmmakers and all from the film fraternity, both locally and internationally.
PIFF 2015
The 13th edition of the Pune International Film Festival was held from 8–15 January 2014. [2] The following awards were given: [3]
- Government of Maharashtra “Prabhat” Best International Feature Film award in World cinema competition was won by the film Behavior (Conducta) by Ernesto Daranas (Cuba) and produced by Isabel Prendes, Danileo Leon, Joel Ortega, Adriana Moya.
- Government of Maharashtra "Prabhat" Best International Feature Film Director award in world cinema competition section was shared between the film Like Never Before (Jako Nikdy) directed by Zdenek Tyc (Czech Republic) and Test (Ispytanie) directed by Alexander Kott (Russia).
- Special Jury award is given to the girl Child Artist Tizita Hagere of the film: Difret ( Ethiopia).
- A special mention award was given to the Actress Samanta Castillo for the film Bad Hair (Pelo malo) (Venezuela, Peru, Argentina, Germany) as well as to the producer Mushfiq Hatamov of the film Nabat (Azerbaijan).
- Audience Award for Best World Competition Film was given to Test (Ispytanie) - (Russia) Producer: Igor Tolstunov Director: Alexander Kott
- Government of Maharashtra “Sant Tukaram” Best International Marathi Film award was shared between Elizabeth Ekadashi directed by Paresh Mokashi & produced by Nittin Keni, Nikhil Sane & Madhugandha Kulkarni And Killa (The Fort) directed by Avinash Arun & produced by Ajay G Rai, Alan McAlex, Madhukar R Musle
- Akhil Bhartiya Marathi Chitrapat Maha Mandal Best Marathi Film Director award was given to Bhaurao Karhade, the director of the film Khwada (Obstacle).
- Akhil Bhartiya Marathi Chitrapat Maha Mandal Best Marathi Film Actor award was given to Ms.Usha Naik for her performance in the film Ek Hazarachi Note (1000 Rupee Note).
- Audience Award for the Best Marathi Competition Film was given to Salaam, Producer: Dr.Gaurav Somani, Sunil Somani, Anand Somani Director : Kiran Yadnyopavit
- Akhil Bhartiya Marathi Chitrapat Mahamandal Best Marathi Film Screenplay Award was given to Mr. Shrikant Bojewar for the film Ek Hazarachi Note.
- Akhil Bhartiy Marathi Chitrapat Mahamandal Best Marathi Film Cinematographer Award was given to Mr. Amol Gole for the Film Elizabeth Ekadashi.
PIFF 2014
The 12th edition of the Pune International Film Festival was held from 9–16 January 2014.[4]
The World Cinema Feature Film Jury unanimously recommended the following awards
- Government of Maharashtra “Prabhat” Best International Feature Film award in World cinema competition was won by the film Papusza (Poland) directed by Joanna Kos-Krauze & Krzysztof Krauze and produced by Lambros Ziotas.
- Government of Maharashtra "Prabhat" Best International Feature Film Director award in world cinema competition section was shared by Joanna Kos-Krauze & Krzysztof Krauze of Papusza (Poland) and Mirko Locatelli of Foreign Bodies| I Corpi Estranei ( Italy ) .
- Special Jury award was given to the film, A Touch of Sin ( China | Japan) produced by Shozo Ichiyama and directed by Jia Zhang-ke.
- The special mention goes to the director Ms. Eva Neymann of the film House with a Turret ( Ukraine )
- A special mention also goes to the actress Ms Sibylle Brunner of the film Rosie (Switzerland | Germany)
The Marathi feature film Competition Jury unanimously recommended the following awards
- Government of Maharashtra “Sant Tukaram” Best International Marathi Film award was given to the film Fandry produced by Nilesh M. Navalakha & Vivek Kajaria and directed by Nagraj Manjule.
- Akhil Bhartiya Marathi Chitrapat Maha Mandal Best Marathi Film Director award goes to Nagraj Manjule, the director of the film Fandry.
- Akhil Bhartiya Marathi Chitrapat Maha Mandal Best Marathi Film Actor goes to Master Somnath Awghade of the film Fandry.
- Akhil Bhartiya Marathi Chitrapat Maha Mandal Best Marathi Film Screenplay award is goes to Ms. Sumitra Bhave of the film Astu ( So Be It) .
- Akhil Bhartiya Marathi Chitrapat Maha Mandal Best Cinematographer award is goes to Vikram Amladi, the cinematographer of the film Fandry.
- The Jury gave the Special Mention certificate to the Music Composer Mangesh Dhakade of the film Narbachi Wadi
Audience Awards
- Audience Award for Best World Competition Film goes to the Film Night Train to Lisbon (Germany, Portugal, Switzerland) produced by Peter Riechenbach, Gunther Russ, Kerstin Ramcke and directed by Bille August.
- Audience award for Best Marathi Competition Film goes to the Marathi Film Fandry produced by Nilesh M. Navalakha & Vivek Kajaria and directed by Nagraj Manjule.
PIFF 2013
The 11th PIFF was held from 10 to 17 January 2013.
- Government of Maharashtra “Prabhat” Best International Feature Film award in World cinema competition went to the film Barbara (Germany) directed by Christian Petzold and produced by Florian Koerner Von Gustorf & Micheal Weber.
- Government of Maharashtra "Prabhat" Best International Feature Film Director award in world cinema competition section went to Rodrigo Pla, the director of the film The Delay (La Demora)
- The special mention went to Ms. Neslihan Atagul actress of the film Araf – Somewhere in Between (Turkey)
- The special mention went to Ali Mosaffa, the script writer of the film The Last Step (Pele Akher)
- Government of Maharashtra "Sant Tukaram" Best Marathi Feature Film award was won by the film Kaksparsh directed by Mahesh Manjrekar & produced by Aniruddha Deshpande & Medha Manjrekar.
- The special Jury award went to the lead actor of "Kaksparsh"Sachin Khedekar.
- Akhil Bhartiya Marathi Chitrapat Maha Mandal Best Marathi Film Director award went to Gajendra Ahire for the film “Anumati".
- Award for Outstanding Contribution to Indian Cinema went to Jeetendra and Ramesh Deo.
- The S.D. Burman International Award for Creative Music and Sound was awarded to Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma and Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia.
PIFF 2012
At the 10th PIFF, held in 2012:
- The film ‘Ha Bharat Mazha’ received the Sant Tukaram Best Marathi Film award during its 10th season.
- Umesh Kulkarni received the best director award for the film 'Deool', in the Marathi film competition category.[5]
- Lifetime Achievement Awards were awarded to actor Amitabh Bachchan and singer Asha Bhosale .[6][7]
