Pump It Up Infinity is a coin operated video arcade dance game. It is the 25th game to be released in the Pump It Up series and is exclusive to the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada. It is the first release developed by Team Infinity alongside Andamiro. The main genres selected for this game include Drum & Bass, Dubstep, Hip Hop, and Rock.[1] Infinity is available as both a dedicated Pump it Up machine or an upgrade kit for any existing Pump It Up machine.[2]
Infinity is not meant to be a sequel to Pump It Up Pro, but is intended as a reboot of the original idea behind Pump it Up Pro: A Pump It Up game that is uniquely geared to audiences in North America and the United Kingdom.[3]
Like Pro, Infinity was created using a modified Stepmania engine. Infinity is based on Stepmania 5. Unlike the PRO series, which was by a few members of the same studio that created In The Groove working in conjunction with Andamiro, Infinity is handled by Andamiro using their Team Infinity subdivision. Infinity's development is planned to continue post release, with new USB updates planned to provide new content to expand upon the initial release version.
Infinity is the first Pump It Up game to offer two different timing windows. "Classic Mode" keeps traditional timing windows, while "PRO Mode" tightens the window to make it comparable to In The Groove. A player's game mode settings can be configured and saved by a USB pen drive.
Game Modes
Infinity offers four gameplay modes.
""Easy Mode"" The default mode is Easy mode.[4] Easy gives players a simplified user interface where a minimal amount of options are selectable in order to reduce confusion in beginning players. In this mode, song difficulties are rated on a 1 to 10 scale and are shown not by number, but by color. Green songs are the easiest, while yellow and red songs represent the harder ones.
To leave Easy mode the player can enter the "FULL MODE" command from the Pump It Up Fiesta series to place themselves back in Arcade Mode.
""Arcade Mode"" This mode is for players familiar with the game. In this mode the player may access hundreds of songs not available in Easy Mode.[5] Infinity features songs from all Pump It Up versions, including the spinoff series Pump It Up Pro and Pump It Up Pro 2.
""Music Train"" This mode was introduced in Pump It Up Fiesta. Music trains are pre-selected courses where multiple songs play continuously. Many music trains feature a unique theme or gimmick to them, catering to advanced players.[6]
""Mission Mode"" Misson mode is unlocked by inserting a USB drive into the machine. Mission Mode presents new goals for advanced players to meet which can be as simple as a different step pattern to a familiar song or as complex as modifications to the game's interface. When a player attempts or clears a mission, they are granted EXP (experience points) to advance further in the mode.[7]
Supported Hardware
Infinity works on any Pump it Up arcade machine type, including the SD, SX, DX, GX, FX, CX, and TX machines. Infinity's minimum requirements are a MK6 MAIN BOX, but the game performs better on an updated MK9 MAIN BOX.
Infinity is controlled similarly to other versions of Pump It Up. Players use the pads to control the user interface. A button board is not required, but is supported. If the software detects a button board attached to the machine, pad input will cease and only the button board will be used to navigate the user interface. Advanced players will be able to unlock pad input on these machines by inserting a USB drive even if the button board is present.
