Pulkit Samrat (born 29 December 1983) is an Indian actor and model, is best known for starring as Lakshya Virani in the popular show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi (2006). He made his film debut with Bittoo Boss (2012), thereafter Fukrey (2013), which was a hit.

Early life and background

Pulkit Samrat was born and brought up in a large Hindu joint family in Shalimar Bagh, Delhi,[1] where his family has its real estate business. He studied at Manav Sthali School, New Rajendra Nagar till class X [1] and completed his schooling from Montfort Senior Secondary School, Ashok Vihar, Delhi and joined an advertising course at Apeejay Institute of Design, Delhi. However after studying for five months, he received a modelling assignment. Thereafter he quit his studies and shifted to Mumbai, where joined acting course run by Kishore Namit Kapoor.[1] He has completed his BMM (Bachelor in Multimedia)and is a product of Asian School Of Media Studies, Noida.

Pulkit got married to Shweta Rohira on 3 November 2014. Shweta is a television journalist, who he met in 2010. Rohira is also "rakhi-sister" to actor Salman Khan. Khan was even involved in the promotion of Samrat's debut film.[2][3]

Career

Pulkit shifted to Mumbai in 2005,[4] and made his television debut in the role of Lakshya Virani in long-running television soap by Balaji Telefilms, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi in 2006, which first got him recognition,[5] though he quit the show in 2007.[6][7] The actor was suffering from a bad back and had a to go through a lot of trouble while shooting for the daily soap. He went to Dubai to get treatment for his back. The character made him the winner of Best Fresh New Face Award at The Indian Telly Awards and Favourite Naya Sadasya (Favourite Newcomer) at Star Parivaar Awards(SPA). In 2011, he appeared as the lead in choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant's musical theatrical Taj Express.[4]

He made his film debut with Bittoo Boss (2012), wherein he played the role of wedding videographer from Punjab.[4] Though the film didn't do well, he got noticed.[8] This led to his second film, Fukrey produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani. The film was released in June, 2013 to good reviews, and later became a sleeper hit.[9]

In 2014, he then appeared in a cameo role in Jai Ho as a police inspector. Then he played lead in O Teri produced by Atul Agnihotri, opposite Bilal Amrohi and Sarah Jane Dias. In 2015, his first film was Arbaaz Khan's Dolly Ki Doli opposite Sonam Kapoor and Rajkumar Rao.[10]

Upcoming Projects

Samrat has multiple projects in production stages. He has completed work on Bangistan opposite Ritesh Deshmukh and Jacqueline Fernandez.[11] He is currently filming for Sanam Re opposite Yami Gautam,[12] and Agra Ka Daabra opposite Ayushmann Khurrana and Yami Gautam.[13] He has been signed on for the Vicky Bhari's Ticket To Bollywood opposite Aditi Rao Hydari.[14]

Personal life

Samrat married long-time Mumbai-based girlfriend Shweta Rohira, on 3 November 2014 in Goa. Rohira, a Sindhi, is Salman Khan's rakhi sister and a former journalist who runs her own boutique. The wedding was attended by Salman Khan and his family.[15]
