Psydrax montana is a species of flowering plant in the Rubiaceae family. It is endemic to Sri Lanka.
Leaves
rotund, rounded ends, margins rolled down, stiff, veins few, prominent, reticulate beneath.
Trunk
Bark - blackish, flaking; Wood - hard, heavy, fine-grained; branches horizontal; branchlets numerous, stout thickened at nodes; twigs quadrangular.
Flowers
green; Inflorescence- umbellate cymes.
Fruits
ovoid drupe.
Ecology
montane forest canopy.
Uses
Wood - heavy construction.
Culture
Known as "වල් බුරුත - wal burutha (meaning wild satin)" in Sinhala.
